A triple-D delight in Austin?

The leaders of Delta Spirit, Dawes and Deer Tick will unveil a new project simply titled MG&V at the Coda Agency SXSW Showcase at Austin, TX's Ale House on March 19.

The indie supergroup of Deer Tick's John McCauley, Dawes' Taylor Goldsmith and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit will give their first performance since recording in Nashville.

The band came together after Deer Tick and Dawes toured together in the summer of 2009. McCauley invited Goldsmith to write songs with him in Nashville during some downtime and as the project took shape, Vasquez was invited to join. Dawes drummer Griffin Goldsmith contributed percussion to the album that will be released later this year.

The group will deliver announcements via their Twitter account.

Little Boots Gallery Spotlight: SF, CA – March 9, 2010

One of last year's breakthrough artists at SXSW was the petite bombshell Victoria Hesketh, aka Little Boots . The British pop dynamo is now celebrating the US release of her debut album "Hands," with a brief North American tour.

The trek's kick-off date was well timed last week (3/2) in New York City, as it was the same day the set on Elektra Records hits stores. The album was released in the UK last summer and promptly charted at No. 5 on their Top 75 Album Chart. Fans have a few more chances to catch the tour before Hesketh and co. head home. Tomorrow (3/12) the band performs at The Glass House in Pomona, CA, and Saturday (3/13) the group will play at Casbah in San Diego. Little Boots is also slated to do a set at next month's Coachella festival in Indio, CA.

LiveDaily photographer Tim Mosenfelder attended the show at The Fillmore in San Francisco on Tuesday (3/9) and here are some highlights.

‘Neil Young Trunk Show’ debuts later this month

A 20-minute version of "No Hidden Path" is the centerpiece of Jonathan Demme's "Neil Young Trunk Show," a concert film that documents two nights at Philadelphia's Tower Theatre on Young's 2007 tour. Demme's first Young film, "Heart of Gold," is similar only in that it, too, was shot over two nights--at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

The new film, which screens in the US beginning March 19 but does not yet have a Blu-Ray/DVD release date, has a far greater stylistic mix and less of a unifying theme as a hook. Young's tour at the time was for "Chrome Dreams II," an album of electric and acoustic songs that had its roots in a shelved album the mid-1980s; "Heart of Gold" drew a throughline from Young's biggest hit and more mellow, recent acoustic works.

"Trunk Show" is a guitar film. The songs, save for "Cinnamon Girl," "Like a Hurricane" and "Cowgirl in the Sand," are largely obscure, and a few--"Sad Movies," "Kansas" and "Mexico"--even had longtime Young fans befuddled when they made their way into set lists on the tour. There's little time spent with backstage or travel scenes; this is about the performance from the perspective of the front row, the drum kit and the stage hands.

Demme holds shots for lengthy periods, adding extra focus on the performance. Shows on that tour were divided between acoustic and electric sets; the film mixes and matches to hold the viewer's interest.

The songs performed in the movie (in order):

Sad Movies Harvest Cinnamon Girl Oh Lonesome Me Kansas Mexico Spirit Road No Hidden Path Ambulance Blues Mellow My Mind The Believer Like A Hurricane Cowgirl In The Sand The Sultan

Conan O’Brien unleashes nationwide theater trek

Rumors of Conan O'Brien hitting the road have been confirmed, as the comedian and former late-night talk show host has unveiled an extensive theater tour that kicks off next month.

O'Brien will premiere "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour" April 12 in Eugene, OR, eventually working his way from the West Coast to the East Coast. In all, the event will stop by 28 North American cities before wrapping up June 14 in Atlanta.

Two-night runs are on the books in seven cities, including Chicago (5/19-5/20), Vancouver (4/13-4/14), and New York City (6/1-6/2).

Tickets for all shows, which are shown at right, are on sale now via Ticketmaster.

The revue, which O'Brien's website describes as "a night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence," will also feature the comedian's longtime sidekick Andy Richter and the band from his eight-month run on the "Tonight Show."

The tour's moniker stems from O'Brien's $32.5 million payout from NBC, which included the provision that he cannot appear on television until Sept. 1, according to the New York Times.

(Live Nation Entertainment is the parent company of Ticketmaster and LiveDaily.)
