Shooter Jennings spins ‘Ribbons’ on March trek

Shooter Jennings continues his road trip this month with his new band, Hierophant, in support of the singer/songwriter's just-released concept album, "Black Ribbons."

The trek, which kicked off earlier this month, continues tomorrow night (3/13) in Denver, and runs through a March 28 show in Chattanooga, TN, that will also feature Alice in Chains. Jennings and Alice in Chains hook up three other times during the outing; details are included at right.

"Black Ribbons," Jennings fourth studio set, surfaced earlier this month. The concept album features narration by author Stephen King, who portrays a late-night talk-radio host who is in the "last hour of his final broadcast before the airwaves are overtaken by government-approved and regulated transmissions," according to Jennings' publicist. King's character plays music by Jennings and Hierophant between his increasingly paranoid rants.

The set trades in Jennings' trademark alt-country sound for a harder-edged psychedelic/industrial-rock atmosphere.

"I wanted to make a different kind of record--a new adventure," Jennings said in a press release. "I know some folks may be surprised at how different this record is compared to my previous works, but I'm sure once they dig in they'll find something that speaks to them. After all, it's the twisted road that matters, not the destination."

"Black Ribbons" follows Jennings' 2008 release, "Waylon Forever," on which he and producer Dave Cobb resurrected and re-created music that Jennings and his father, late country music star Waylon Jennings, first began working on when Shooter was 16-years-old. Cobb, who has worked with Chris Cornell and Jamey Johnson, also produced "Black Ribbons."
