Sexy MX Wireless 1 Earphones For Audiophiles

Sennheiser is hoping to appeal all you wirephobic hi-fi nuts this week with the launch of the first portable wireless headphone set capable of transmitting full CD-quality stereo audio. The MX Wireless 1 (MX W1) headphones - well earphones, to be accurate - use 'Kleer' wireless technology that transmits at 2.37MB/s peak bit rate and are able to carry full CD-quality stereo without having to resort to lossy compression. The Kleer technology claims to be 10 times more efficient than Bluetooth, offers 'unprecedented immunity to interference' in the 2.4GHz band and promises ultra low power consumption. That translates as 24-hours use per full charge. Sennheiser says that there's no TV/video lip-syncing problems that you get with other wireless products. The wireless earbuds weigh in at just 10g each and sport 14mm transducers, with powerful neodymium magnets, for accurate sound and decent bass. The transmitter is matchbox-sized and can easily be fitted to portable music players with the bundled rubber bands. How hi-tech is that? Even better, the earphone holster/carrying case acts a mobile power station that can charge the lot up to three times, for 10-12 hours each time. And the cost for such technical audio finery? £300 from the end of this month. Not for the faint-hearted, nor those with a cobwebbed wallet.-Martin Lynch earphones music

New Sonos Wireless Speakers Finally Arrive

We caught sight of these fab new Sonos ZonePlayers back in May but now they're all official, with full specs and prices. Meet the new additions to the wireless music system: the ZonePlayer 120 and ZonePlayer 90. The ZonePlayer 120 now boasts its own amp and can have speakers attached to it, allowing you to take your music from home anywhere you like in the house or garden. It's also over 40% smaller than the existing ZonePlayer 100 and at 5lbs, half the weight. The ZP120 delivers 2x55Watts per channel RMS at 8 Ohms and, according to Sonos, "the incredibly efficient amplifier and power supply, combined with the fan-less design of the aluminum case, allows the ZP120 to operate silently". The new ZonePlayers uses SonosNet 2.0, the latest version of Sonos' wireless mesh network technology, which doubles the wireless range of the Sonos Multi-Room Music System. The non-amped ZonePlayer 90 is designed to be hooked up to a hi-fi or other music source to let you make use, and extend the range, of the audio hardware you already own. The ZonePlayer 120 costs £349 while the ZonePlayer 90 comes in at £249. [Sonos] music home streaming

JBL Rings Changes With New Speakers

JBL manufacturers a range of rather stylish speakers and its new Control Now range offers a versatile solution for both the home and outdoors. Available in two different guises, the Control Now and Control Now AW, the latter is a weatherproof solution, though despite being touted as such is not waterproof and should be sheltered from direct exposure to ice, snow or moisture. Doesn't that make it about as hardwearing as any other speaker then? Regardless, both this and the indoor version come with a 90 degree angled design, and are intended to fit in the corner of a room, on a shelf or between a wall and ceiling. Alternatively you can connect up to four together into a doughnut shape that can be hung from a ceiling or mounted on the floor using a supplied bracket, so it's a versatile little number to boot. Each contains a tweeter and two four-inch woofers for a rounded sound environment, and are capable of handling up to 300 watts of power. They'll be available from July for £149 or £179 for the outdoor model, so if you've got the kind of arrangement that'd suit the design keeps your eyes peeled. - Paul Lester [JBL] speakers portable audio JBL

Go Green With OneForAll

OneForAll.jpg

Even if you don’t consider yourself an environmentally conscious ‘green’ sort, it’s unlikely you’d pass up the opportunity to save a few bob.

For most of the readers of this site it’s likely that electrical appliances are responsible for the bulk of energy bills, in which case a new innovation from remote manufacturer OneForAll is here to help.

Its new ‘Energy Saver’ remote control comes with a special power plug through which you’re supposed to attach all the appliances you’d like turned off at night or when not in use.

The remote control is pre-programmed to control the plug, meaning you can turn everything off or back on again at the press of a button offering an energy saving of around 90%. For the more technically minded this could represent 74.34 kilowatts per year or 44kg of carbon dioxide.

The remote itself comes with all the usual bells and whistles, can control up to four devices and is future-proof in that it can be wirelessly upgraded with any new devices over the Internet.

You can pick one up from the end of May for £39.99 from major stockists like Dixons and John Lewis. – Paul Lester
