Apple’s New ‘Go Faster’ iMacs

Apple has updated its iMac computers with new Intel processors and what it calls ‘the most powerful graphics ever in an iMac’.
The new iMacs now come with faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors across the line, up to 3.06GHz, and up to 2GB of memory standard in most models. The top end iMac with its impressive 24in LCD display also boasts an optional GeForce 8800 GS graphics processor alongside a 2.8GHz Intel Core Duo chip. The 24in model, with 320GB hard disk and ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB GDDR3 memory, costs £1,150.
The entry-level model sports a 20in display, 1GB of Dram, a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a 1066 MHz front-side bus and a 250GB HDD for £799.
The new iMacs sport AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi networking for up to ‘five times the performance of 802.11g’, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, built-in iSight video camera, 5 USB 2.0 ports and FireWire 400 and 800 ports.
All models come with the Leopard OS and iLife 08, an overhauled version of Apple’s digital lifestyle tools including a new version of iPhoto and a ‘completely reinvented’ iMovie.-Martin Lynch
