Ergonomic HandshoeMouse Kind To Hands, Hates Wallets
I'm pretty sure my bog-standard USB mouse was not designed by scientists looking out for my welfare but the Hippus HandshoeMouse was. Scientists at the medical universities of Rotterdam and Maastricht went to the trouble of measuring the muscular tension in the hands and arms of mouse users, and then analysed control behaviour over a period of 4 years. Impressive indeed. The upshot was that test subjects still build up 'unnecessarily strong muscular tension', even when they are not moving the mouse. According to project Leader Prof. Dr. Snijders: "It immediately became clear to us that this is an important part of RSI problems. For the tension in the fingers also directly affects the muscle groups in the neck and shoulders.' The solution was the HandshoeMouse which allows the whole hand and fingers to rest on the mouse, with the keys and scroll wheel positioned so that only the smallest of movements are needed to control your PC or game. It comes in three sizes to suit different sized hands and a wireless version is due by the end of the year. The result is less muscle action = less muscle tension build-up = less chance of RSI and less tension in the neck and shoulders. Sadly, it also = less money in your pocket since it costs a not so healthy £93 here.-Martin Lynch [Hothardware] technology mouse health
