Nokia N96 Shipping July 31
Nokia’s all singing-all dancing multimedia flagship, the N96 phone, looks like it’ll be landing on July 31.
According to a pre-order page on Play.com, the sexy successor to the N95, which is jam packed with more techie features than Batman’s pants, is nearly here. That said - brace yourself - the pre-order price of £600 is a little staggering.
I’m putting this down to pre-order over exuberance [or price gouging] because the official price we’ve heard about is more in the £410 range. So, don’t pre-order. Still not cheap but then, you’re getting a lot of phone.
The N96, announced in February, is a 16GB slider with an in-built DVB-H TV tuner for watching digital TV on the go – in ‘selected markets’.
It sports a 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, flash and a video light for recording DVD-quality video at 30fps. There’s a decent 2.8in display [though not as large as the iPhone's] but it does boast a very cool kickstand on the back that lets you prop it up on a table for easier viewing of video content.
There’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA, a micro USB 2.0 port and microSD slot for adding another 8GB of storage.
There’s also integrated GPS and geo-tagging for your photos, as well as integrated Web browsing via Nokia Web Browser. And let’s not forget the couple of dedicated buttons for all those new N-Gage games.-Martin Lynch
